Intention keeps Akasha Yoga in place

Yoga developed in India probably more than 2,500 years ago. It was introduced to the West in the 1890s, began to be promoted as an exercise regimen around the 1920s and enjoyed booms in the ’60s and ’80s.

But it wasn’t until the end of the 20th century that it went mainstream. Western medicine began to tout its benefits. Manuals and magazines inundated bookstores. Yoga apparel and gear became big business. And exercise studios specializing in the styled poses with often long tongue-twisting Sanskrit names proliferated across the country — coming even to Jackson Hole.
